- Searching for characters followed by a “*” character will find words that begin with those characters—e.g. “tri*” (without the quotes) will find samples using the words “tristranensis”, “tricolor”, or “tricolpate” and so on.
- Searching for a “*” character followed by characters will find words that end with those characters—e.g. “*ate” (without the quotes) will find samples using the words “reticulate”, “tricolporate”, or “tricolpate” and so on.
- Search for characters with a “*” prefix and suffix will find words that contain those characters—e.g. “*aca*” (without the quotes) will find “acalypha”, “diacantha” and so on.
- To search for APSA samples that have microscope images associated with them, search for “*jpg” (without the quotes).
- To search for APSA samples containing several words use the “AND” search qualifier (without the quotes)—e.g. searching for “acacia AND sandy” will find samples that use both the words “acacia” and “sandy”.
- To search for APSA samples containing any of several words use the “OR” search qualifier (without the quotes)—e.g. searching for “acacia OR sandy” will find samples that use either of the words “acacia” or “sandy”.
The APSA website search engine is compatible with the Apache foundation Lucene search engine and you may use any of the more advanced searching commands described in the Lucene search documentation.
