Habitat notesThe type grows on the Hawaiian island of Nihoa or "Bird Island", off the northwest coast of Kauai. Unknown to Rapa Nui(Easter Island) except for in the pollen record identified by O.H.Selling in Heyerdhal's expedition in 1958 and Flenley 1991. A possible species in the KAO3 core of Rano Kao. (Gossen, 2010)
