Habitat notes | On Molokai, P. hillebrandii grows near the coast, while P. lowreyana grows inland. But in some parts of the range both grow in close proximity. It was in this area that Beccari noted possible hybridization between P. lowreyana and P. hillebrandii. Unknown to Rapa Nui (Easter Island) except for in the pollen record identified by O.H.Selling in Heyerdhal's expedition in 1958 and Flenley 1991. A possible species in the KAO3 core of Rano Kao.
